Coney Island Hot Dog

Coney Island Hot Dog & Sauce

My Grandfather owned a drive-in restaurant back in the 1950’s. This is his exact recipe for Coney Dogs from back in the day. It is always hit with friends and family and a nice little twist to your average hot dog!

  • 2 lbs Ground Beef
  • 1/2 cup Onion (chopped)
  • 1 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 Sugar (white)
  • 1/4 cup Vinegar (white)
  • 1/4 cup Prepared Yellow Mustard
  • 1/2 tsp Celery Seed
  • 3/4 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  1. Place the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Cook, stirring to crumble, until beef is browned then drain.

  3. Transfer the beef and onion to a slow cooker and stir in the ketchup, sugar, vinegar and mustard.

  4. Season with celery seed, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and salt.

  5. Finally, cover and simmer on Low setting for a few hours before serving.

  6. When you have finished with your Coney Island Sauce, be sure to cook your hot dogs on the grill, stove top, or microwave!

Enjoy!
