I was reading this book “In the Company of Women” by Grace Bonney and fail in love with it! As a writer myself, this book gave me so much inspiration as a mother, a woman, a daughter, and a breast cancer survivor! It is a book featuring over 100 women in the world that have made a difference, within their work, life, community, art and entertainment. I was super inspired after I read it and wanted to share some of the amazing quotes that these profound women shared.
Tavi Gevinson, a writer shared her favorite that inspires and motives her: “I had always known that life was not appetite and acquisition. In my earnest, angry, good-girl way, I pursued MEANING. “by Vivian Gornick
Jodie Patterson, beauty entrepreneur, shared that when business has been slow, I redesigned my website, learned social media, started a blog, found an agent, and wrote a book. Creativity leads back to the self and makes one better. I create to stay up!
I fell in love with Linda Rodin, if you don’t know her, look her up. She is a Stylist and Beauty Entrepreneur. She created her own product at 59 years of age because she didn’t find what she wanted with current products! Her favorite saying/lyric “Time is an ocean, but it ends at the sand.” A lyric from Bob Dylan
Thelma Golden, Museum Director and Chief Curator, has a gift of seeing art for what it is. The beauty of the historic and legendary objects that she views every day. Her personal motto is “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” By Arthur Ashe
Genevieve Gorder, Interior Designer and Television Host. Asked – what does success mean to you – her answer “Able to live my imagination and give it away to as many people as possible in one lifetime.”
Christine Schmidt, Artist and Designer, after asking her what trait she is most proud of, she answered “I don’t compare myself to others. I’m not in a competition.” She also was an identical twin.
Nikki Giovanni, Poet and Professor, a passionate professor that admits that she has learned each day on how to improve. When asked what the world needs more of, she said “The world needs more patience, but honesty could help a bit too.”
Carla Hall, Chef and Television Host, which I adore this lady! She has so much energy and that translates to her food and television! When asked what quotation inspires and motivates you to be yourself, she said “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” By Brene Brown. Think about this because it is profound.
This is just a snapshot of this powerful book of women, that are creators in food, television, writing, music, pottery, activist and many more amazing things that we all can be when we put our minds to it! These women define their success in their own words, and it is so inspirational to me. I hope you relate to these women and believe as much as I do how they have changed the world and you can too!
